Inspired by the Earth’s Children’s series, I have decided to try to spit some meat over the firepit. I started with a cornish game hen, and the process took about 4 hours. Actually, it may have been done earlier, but we decided to wait til midnight to pull it off the fire. You see, we had pulled it off the firepit after two hours. It had browned to a beautiful color from the marinade and glaze. We cut into it immediately and found it to be very pink. So, back on the spit for another two hours. Yes, I know we should have had a meat thermometer, but that was forgotten back in the city. So we aired on the safe side, and decided to char the hell out of it. In the end, it was dry with not much flavor. But it was fun! The first time is always an experiment anyways, so we did good, I think!
Marinade recipe: grated ginger rub, then splashed (or bathed) in tequila. Marinade at least an hour.
Glaze recipe: honey, lime and tequila. I left the honey back in the city, sitting right next to the meat thermometer. So, I dissolved some raw sugar in the tequila, then added the juice from a lime. Apparently you can use the lime juice in the marinade, but that starts to cook the chicken while it’s sittin.
Next I have to try the beer can cooker thingy!

A storm is moving in. The sunlight is covered over by thick, dark spring clouds. I set another log on the fire and then turn towards the northwest, the direction from which the storm is approaching. I envision I am a priestess of the elements. Raising my outstretched arms, I summon the wind. The leaves start fluttering, the sound picks up like the roar of an ocean wave crashing into the trees.
I feel the rush of energy and then, the Big D starts his skil saw! The grating sound of metal upon wood brings me back to the here and now. But, alas, I am no priestess of the elements. I am just a woman seeking mindful adventure with my man.
A storm is approaching here at the river trailer. Who knows if we will be able to cook out on the campfire tonight. The drops are dropping, the wind is blowing, and I?
I need another beer.

A spring wind blew through my head and as a result, the seeds of this blog were planted. It’s about my life as a desi in the Midwest. There are adventures in the jeep, times spent as trailer trash, and a whole lot of cooking and eating with a bit of foraging. Also there is the CSA.
Every week we get a delivery from a local organic farm. I never know what it is that I am going to get. In this box, they pack what it is that they have harvested in the week. The produce and fruit are incredibly fresh and tasty! But the process of learning to cook all this has not been so easy. There are vegetables I’ve never even heard of before, and there are vegetables that I never liked. But when they come out of a CSA box, they seem to transform into something else. Something that is a cross between a challenge and nutritional necessity. More about the CSA later.
In this blog there is also stuff about living and loving.
